NEW MUSIC: Brandy's "Wildest Dreams"

This is a nice melo follow up single from Brandy called "Wildest Dreams".... I personally wouldn't have picked it for a single... It just feels like an album filler to me.. but I still love it.

This is the finesse and swooning that I was talking about on Twitter last night that I said was missing from R&B. This isn't R&B all the way but, great job with this one Usher and Rico Love! I'm loving it!

Teddy Riley and Blackstreet Hit the Stage in ATL! [Video]

Teddy Riley being honored by the Mayor of Atlanta

This past Tuesday, August 14th I went to ATL Live on the Park hosted by Shanti Das, Devyne Stevens and Marlon Nichols. Kenny Burns graced us as the MC for the night. This was a very special rendition because they honored Teddy Riley for his many contributions to the R&B game, most notable, the New Jack Swing era. I was honored to be in the building. After being honored by Mayor Kasim Reed, Teddy took the stage to perform a solo set of all his hits and later reunited with Blackstreet to perform their classic hits. Other talented performers graced the stage: Amber Bullock, Mishon, Brittnee Camelle, Saint Nick and Marques Anthony.

I had a really great time! Check out a clip I managed to get on my phone, lol..

Check Me Out: International Music Conference R&B/Hip Hop Panelist

HUGE Thank You to Julia and Reggie of the 2nd Annual International Music Conference that was held in Atlatna, GA this past weekend at the Melia Hotel. This was my first official panel as the new kid on the music executive business block! haha.. I had a lot of fun participating on the R&B/Hip Hop Song Feedback Panel with my industry peers: GRAMMY Award winning Chuck Harmony, GRAMMY Nominated Nate Walker, Atlantic A&R KP, GRAMMY Nominated Kendrick Dean, and Peniece Le Gall, Director of SESAC. We answered questions that related to the state of R&B and Hip Hop music today and provided valuable and critical feedback to conference attendees who were brave enough to play their music in front of us! lol... It was a lot of fun and I'm looking forward to next year's conference. Check out some of the pics...

L to R: Peniece Le Gall, Kendrick Dean, Me (J.Couture) & Chuck Harmony
Not pictured: KP and Nate Walker

L to R: Johnathon Landrum (Panel Moderator) & Myself

Shout out to New Era Flagship Store for sponsoring...

There is definitely value in attending these types of conferences if you are an aspiring music business professional. Towards the end of the panel I offered a 14 year old producer/songwriter assistance in scoring an internship with one of Atlanta's hottest award nominated Hip Hop producers. I saw something in him that reminded me of myself at that age. He was full of talent and ambition. I felt he deserved a shot! I'll keep you posted on how that goes...

Shout out to the boss man, Cappriccieo Scates, for allowing me to participate on the panel in his absence while he's actively doing his part to serve our country!.. and thank you to my friends Ms. Brenda, Jennifer and Ericka for coming through to support! Love you guys :-)

NEW MUSIC: Jhene Aiko's "3:16AM" [Official Video]

I honestly don't even know how I want to feel about this song and video after watching her explanation behind the creative direction. She basically said when she was a little girl all she wanted to do was watch horror movies. She also said between the hours of 3AM and 5AM she explores the dark thoughts that she has, befriends and embraces them and that's what the inspiration was behind this song. When I first heard it and watched the video, I didn't want to pass the "she sold her soul" judgement because that's not always the case, but damn.... now, I'm not too sure.. Jhene's project is called "Souled Out".... So we'll see what's to come...

Check it out!

Jhene explains the creative direction of this song and video...

So what are we thinking...

DO WE LOVE IT?!

Considering I've been a fan since 2001, I'll give her a second shot.. This isn't necessarily what I expected to see or hear, or even want to hear as a true fan coming from Def Jam's debut artist, Jhene Aiko.. Her mixtape was too fly for this follow up... But to each its own.

NEW MUSIC: Drake feat. AALIYAH "Enough Said"

Aaliyah's music still lives on. Shout out to Drake for this song and bringing our R&B angel, Aaliyah, back to the forefront of music. Very interesting to hear her voice on a new song in 2012. This is great!

Check it out!

DID DRAKE DO AALIYAH ANY JUSTICE OR INJUSTICE BY PUTTING THIS SONG OUT?!

Let's "talk about it."

I'm curious to see if there is going to be a major push on this song and how they're going to visually promote it.
